FAQ

Is Lou only aimed at women and girls?

No. Lou is for everybody who experiences violence. We know that anybody can be affected by domestic and sexual violence, no matter their identity.

However, it is also true that people who experience discrimination in society are also more likely to experience violence. This is why we have a special focus on especially vulnerable and marginalized groups. Still, Lou strives to provide help and support for
all that need it – and that includes friends, loved ones, work colleagues, teachers, etc.
of those affected by violence. We want them to help better, too.

Do I have to pay to use Lou?

No. Lou is free for everyone and doesn’t show ads – and will always stay that way.

Do I stay anonymous while using Lou?

Yes. No one will know that you are using Lou.

Is my data safe with Lou?

Your safety and the security of your sensitive data are our top priority. That's why Lou never asks you for your e-mail address, real name, phone number, or any other data that’s not necessary to get you the help you need. At Lou&You, we also work with leading privacy experts who care about your privacy as much as we do, and who have developed a secure concept with us.

Does Lou offer personal advice?

No. Lou is the first point of contact for you if you have been affected by domestic and sexual violence. Lou helps you get an overview of the situation and plans your next steps with you. Lou shows you the help services that can assist you now. Lou can point you to the right counseling center for you, but Lou doesn’t provide personal counseling.

Do I have to answer all the questions in the search form to get help?

No. If you want, you can get a general overview of the topic under "general information” for now. You do not have to provide any information about your personal situation if you can’t or don’t want to right now.

How does Lou differ from existing support services?

Lou doesn’t replace the help services that already exist but Lou helps you to find them. Lou bundles information and help services for you so that you can access them all in one place and decide the next steps that are right for you. Lou pays attention to simple language, accessibility, inviting and intuitive design, and a discrimination-sensitive approach. You can confide in Lou without having to talk or chat about the incident with a real person.

What if Lou can’t find help for me?

In the coming months, we are focusing primarily on providing even better support for (multiply) marginalized people. We’re increasing the number of help services we’re providing information and access to. And we are committed to find even more options
to helping you. However, there are as many different needs as there are people that are looking for support. Lou&You is a project that requires constant development and optimization. If you have any suggestions or ideas on how we can make Lou an even better companion, feel free to message us.

How is Lou funded?

Right now, we are mostly funded by donations, the support of a foundation, and the support of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action in the framework of the call for proposals for Innovative Business Models and Pioneer Solutions (IGP).
